2026 Yamaha Tracer 9 GT | First Look Review and specs. This is the 2026 Yamaha Tracer 900GT, which will showcase the model's features and advantages. While the heated grips are nice and the TFT dashboard is visually pleasing compared to a motorcycle's LCD screen, it's the suspension that really sets the GT apart, addressing the main flaws of the standard Tracer 900.
The extra composure and improved ride quality make the GT feel like a more refined product, a feeling further enhanced by the upgraded specifications. If you own a Tracer 900 and like it, the GT is a significant leap forward in terms of ride, quality, and specifications and well worth the upgrade. During 2018, Alison Silcox of MCN ran a Yamaha Tracer 900GT as a long-term test bike for a year.
There are many motorcycles that, on paper, look perfect. Ride enough bikes and apply a little critical thinking, and you can start to discover what you like and what you don't like about each offering. Eventually, you compile a list of the best aspects of each, mentally combining them into one bike that, if anything, would be unmatched. For me, that bike would be the Yamaha Tracer 900 GT.
Years ago, Triumph emailed existing Street Triple owners like me a survey in an attempt to find out what features and technologies we'd like them to focus on for future versions of our bikes. Many of the items they proposed in that survey made it into the current 765cc Street Triples, but one key variant never materialized. I always believed my Street Triple would be perfect with a small, half-faired, hard-top trunk. Triumph teased that idea in the survey, but it seems more power and gadgetry appealed to other respondents.
Ride Quality & Brakes
The upgraded KYB suspension supports the bike better, eliminating much of the wet sensation you get on the standard model with just enough adjustment to fine-tune the remaining wobble. You can notice the difference in low-speed corners, where the standard bike's forks dip under the brakes before bouncing back when you release the stoppers, causing the rear end to squat and the bike to widen, a sensation much less noticeable on the GT. The new seat is nice and comfortable, and the updated riding position is relaxed.

The Yamaha Tracer 9 GT shares the same motor as the MT-09, which isn't a bad thing at all. Packed with grunt, the 847cc triple has good throttle response and a bit of pep when you want to open it up and let it rev. You get a reliable clutch as standard, and the GT version even adds a quickshifter, which is nice and slick to operate. The engine is the MT range's main selling point and still delivers in this sports tourer.
Reliability & Build Quality
The Tracer may be built on a budget, but that doesn't show in build quality, and owners report the older model as well-finished and reliable. There shouldn't be any major issues to worry about, other than a few rusty fasteners if the bike is used in winter and not treated with anti-corrosion spray. We currently have eight owner reviews of the Yamaha Tracer 900GT on the site, with an overall rating of 4 out of 5 stars.
Value vs. Rivals
The Tracer has always represented great value for money, and the GT version continues this theme. You get a ton of extras for a little more than the stock bike, and aside from the lack of cornering ABS/TC, there's not much missing from the spec sheet. Well, apart from a working screen.
For £1,400 more than the Tracer 900, the GT gets a fully adjustable fork, a shock with remote preload adjuster, color-matched panniers, a full-color dashboard, heated grips, cruise control, and a quickshifter. And that's on top of the dual-stage traction control, ABS, and three power modes that come with the stock bike, as well as a new screen for 2018, built-in pannier mounts, and a center stand. That's not bad at all for £10,792.
Standard Panniers on the Yamaha Tracer 900GT
The 22-liter panniers themselves are color-matched, have collapsible handles, and a keyless ignition, adding to the convenience. They sit close and secure to the engine via integrated hangers on the subframe, which is exactly how panniers should be. This means that when full, the extra weight is kept as close to the engine's centerline as possible, rather than hanging inches from the bike on the external frame and turning it into a boat when loaded.

Both models get a pair of disc rotors.
